Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert lost his starting job as quarterback for the University of Texas just after 2 games. He now plans to transfer to another school after having season ending surgery on his shoulder. He was given an unconditional release from his scholarship in the University of Texas so that he can find another school. He has not said what school he will be attending but he has already visited many schools. Gilbert is a former high school national player of the year. He came off the bench to replace injured Colt McCoy in the 2010 BCS championship which they sadly lost to Alabama.
Gilbert had surgery on his right throwing shoulder after not playing in Texas’ win over UCLA the next week. Team trainers said Gilbert suffered the injury in the first game against Rice and that it got progressively worse.
Gilbert won a training camp battle to keep the job this season but was pulled for Case McCoy and David Ash midway through a 17-16 win over BYU in the second game. Click here and here for more information. Blog by Juan
